Should've Played That King Six Bad Beat Story

I'm not sure if this is a bad beat story, but more of the fastest night I have had at a poker table in my life....

It happened one night at the Carson Valley Inn, in Minden, NV. Minden is a small town, and not to big on poker. The CVI poker room has 4 tables and most nights there is only one in use, and its always a low limit game to keep it fun and not too serious. At the time the game they had going that brisk October night was $2-$4 limit. I wanted to work on tight solid play that night so I only brought with me $60 to play with, so as not to splash around too much. I sit down at the table, the blinds are $1-$2 and I walk right into the big blind, I am asked if I want to wait 2 hands and come in for free or post, so I post, so much for tight play. Before the cards are dealt the guy on my left decides he wants to straddle and makes it $4 to go, then the guy on his left straddles him also and makes it $6 to go. The cards are dealt, as the action goes around the table everyone at the table makes the $6 call. I look down at King of clubs 6 of spades (not a great hand). I figure that with everyone calling a $6 bet someone has to have some sort of hand, but with $56 in the pot Im getting over 9 to 1 on my money so I should call, but I fold. The flop (not even kidding) comes King, King, King. I would have flopped quads, stupid fold right. The guy that won the pot had pocket 9's for the boat. Had I played the hand before the rake and not being able to get any bets or calls from anyone else, I would have had a $60 dollar pot plus $25 bonus for making quads. There was other action from the other players, so it would have been about a $100 pot. Not to shabby for a low limit game.

The very next hand I'm in the small blind im dealt an 8-2 offsuit and still kinda upset about the last hand so I fold. Now im on the button and dealt pocket 4's I raise and get 4 callers. The flop comes down 4-9-2, great flop for me. I got middle set, everyone checks so I bet, the guy on my left raises, everyone folds, so i re-raise, he calls. The turn card is another deuce, my money card I got a full house. He checks to me so I bet, he raises, I think for about minute about re-raising, but I just call hoping to get into a betting war on the river. The river is a 7, he bets, I raise, he re-raises, I re-raise, he caps the betting, so I call. The showdown, I show my boat 4's full of 2's, he flips over pocket 7's, 7's full of 2's. How brutal was that river.

So after 3 hands im down from $60 to $19. The next hand (and my last of the night) im dealt A-K suited hearts. The action is folded around to me so I raise it. The button calls and both blinds call. The flop comes Q clubs-J clubs-10 diamonds. I flop broadway. All im thinking about is "How do I get my last $15 into the pot?" Both guys in the pot check to me, so I bet, one call and a fold. Turn is the 4 of clubs, a scare card. Well we all know you cant play scared poker and be a winner. He checks, I bet, he raises, he either has the flush or wants to represent it. I dont think he has it, so I re-raise, he looks at the last $3 in front of me and says, "I know you have me beat, but why not and re-raises my last $3, so I'm commited and I toss it in. He turns over pocket 2's with the deuce of clubs. SWEET!!!! I am ahead and he needs a club to beat me. As I watch the river card come off the 7 of clubs, the pot gets pushed to him, with the the runner runner flush to crush my flopped straight. So much for playing tight tonite. I stand up tell everyone good luck, and I walk out of the poker room.... cursing that damn King Six. $56 in the pot, I should have played that weak ass hand. If I was an internet player, I would have.

To this day, whenever something bad happens in my life, small or big, I just look down, grin, look back up, and say, "Should've played that King Six."

Thanks for listening,
